In a significant turn of events, impeached Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, was officially served an Appeal Court notice on Tuesday, following weeks of evasion.

SME MEDIA Newsblog confirms that the Edo State House of Assembly has withdrawn its interlocutory appeal, opting to focus on the two primary appeals related to the ongoing legal proceedings. This decision reflects a strategic pivot by the Assembly to address the core issues in the case, rather than engaging in procedural delays.

Meanwhile, Marvelous Omobayo remains deputy governor pending the court’s decision on the stay of execution motion and the main appeals, expected in September.

A government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained: “The events today are a reflection of the true state of affairs. The propaganda and misinformation spread by the impeached deputy governor and his new party, the APC, have been exposed. We initially had three appeals concerning the impeachment—one interlocutory and two related to the main judgment.”

The official added, “Shaibu had been avoiding service of the appeals against the main judgment. However, when he appeared in court today, he was duly served with the documents he had been dodging. As a result, we withdrew the interlocutory appeal. The two primary appeals against the main judgment remain active, and he is now required to respond. Their propaganda should be dismissed; it’s merely a distraction.”
