Irrua, Esan Central LGA, Edo State – September 19, 2024

Tension has gripped the town of Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area as reports have emerged that Mr. Clifford Ehichioya, popularly known as “Small Chief,” a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the owner of Cliffsandra Hotel in Irrua, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The incident occurred just before noon Thursday, sending shockwaves across the community and sparking concerns over the heightened insecurity that has been plaguing Edo State since a party promised to provide insecurity, and especially since the withdrawal of local Vigilante.

Local sources reveal that the kidnapping happened under mysterious circumstances, and the town has since been thrown into a state of confusion and fear.

As reports of the abduction spread, the local populace has become increasingly agitated, with many questioning the role of security agencies in maintaining law and order. Irrua, which has witnessed the withdrawal of local vigilante groups in recent weeks, is now feeling the impact of the decision, with many citizens lamenting the apparent helplessness of the police in curbing rising crime.

Tensions are further heightened by allegations of political interference in the security architecture of the state. Citizens are openly expressing anger over what they describe as a “political siege,” following rumors of plots by certain political actors to destabilize the region ahead of the Edo 2024 elections.

This development has fueled further suspicion among residents about the involvement of political parties in the growing unrest.

Residents of Irrua have begun revolting, demanding an immediate end to what they describe as a deliberate attempt to stifle political opposition through the use of force and intimidation. They are calling for swift action from both the government and security agencies to restore peace and address the growing wave of abductions and criminal activities in the region.

As the situation unfolds, the town remains in a feverish mood, with citizens urging authorities to take decisive steps to ensure the safe return of Mr. Clifford and to address the escalating insecurity that threatens to overshadow the upcoming election season.

This is a developing story, and more updates will be provided as information becomes available.
