Ekpoma, Edo State – A tragic accident occurred on Monday near Keystone Bank in Ekpoma, claiming the life of Mrs. Rose Oigbochie, an accountant and Bursary staff of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. Mrs. Oigbochie, who was also the wife of a pastor, was fatally struck by a water tanker following a collision involving a commercial motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around noon when the commercial motorcycle accidentally hit Mrs. Oigbochie, causing her to fall onto the busy road. Before bystanders could react, a water tanker approached and ran over her, killing her instantly. The scene was described as horrific, leaving onlookers in shock and disbelief

Emergency services arrived quickly, but the victim was beyond help. The tanker driver fled the scene immediately, while some enraged bystanders damaged the tanker before the police arrived to restore order. The commercial motorcyclist also fled, prompting a police investigation into the incident.

Residents of Ekpoma have expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the tragedy, emphasizing the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations. Many have called for improved infrastructure and better regulation of commercial motorcycles, often implicated in accidents due to reckless driving.
